About Me.
My name is Emily Minion. I attend Rowan University for Elementary Education and Writing Arts. It took me far too long to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. Sometimes I still wonder if I would make a good teacher, then I get into the classroom for observations and I feel more at home than ever. Now that I am part of the Writing Arts department, my home has solidified. I know where I am now is where I'm supposed to be.
I come from a big family, leaving me with much responsibility to fend for myself. This is the first time in my working life that I let myself rely on my parents for financial help. It seems that we, as students, have no other choice than to accept help to get us through school. What a bummer. For work, I am a waitress, a cashier, a tutor, and a nanny. Not all at once.
I’ve always had a passion for children and helping people. I always wanted to be in the Special Education field, helping students to read and write. As I grew older, my plans changed. I now dream of having my own inclusion classroom. I don't think I will ever stop learning but my day will come to be on the teaching end.
The more that I write, the more I think I should go back and start from the beginning before I get too off topic. I was born and raised in North Jersey. When I say NORTH Jersey I don’t mean Monmouth County, I mean Sussex County, the absolute most north you can go in New Jersey. I am ten minutes from New York State and ten minutes from Pennsylvania. I went to a small elementary school for kindergarten through sixth grade. Then, from seventh through twelfth I attended Kittatinny Regional High School. I didn’t know what exactly I wanted to do so I enrolled in Sussex County Community College and received my Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts. I toyed with the idea of moving to Chicago to attend Roosevelt University on a scholarship but being that far away from my family was not an option. So, HERE I AM.
I love to fish by the lake and sunbathe by the ocean in the summertime, build things in the snow in the winter, and adventure to find views higher than the clouds in the spring and fall. I also enjoy spending quality time with my sister, brother, stepbrother and soon-to-be sister-in-law. My mother and stepfather are very important people in my life; they have raised me to be the person I am today!
To finally end all this chit-chat, I would like to say that I enjoy long walks on the beach, seriously, candle lit dinners, having a good time and never taking life too seriously. I hope to one day become the best teacher that I can be and change at least one person’s life for the better. If I don’t do that, my life won’t feel complete. (And if I don't become a teacher, I'm moving to a city and writing a novel or two.)
